Join the Historical Society to welcome Mary Stewart Adams to our lecture series on Thursday, May 20 at 7:00 pm. In this online presentation, Mary will lead us on a journey to the stars through the lens of the cultural arts, with highlights from her new book, The Star Tales of Mother Goose ~ For Those Who Seek the Secret Language of the Stars. Though Mother Goose ditties are often regarded as nonsense rhymes meant to amuse children, their origins in the initiation rites of the Middle Ages and their connection to the stars make for a rich and delightful journey through history. Mary will share how her work as a Star Lore Historian is inspired by the stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline in Harbor Springs, and how her long collaboration with her sister, artist Patricia DeLisa, resulted in this, their first book.
Mary Stewart Adams is a historian, author and host of the weekly public radio podcast “The Storyteller’s Night Sky.” Mary led the team that established the 9th International Dark Sky Park in the world at the Headlands in Mackinaw City in 2011, and presented award-winning programs there until 2018.
